3D scanner

Thinking of getting the structure sensor 3d scanner for the iPad.

Ofcourse I'll need to get an iPad but from what I looked at it seems to be the best scanner available for the money.

Any thoughts?

I think Andre have one. I am waiting mine, deliver promised until July 30. I am also waiting for Cirri, a software solution, but this was delayed.

These two seems to be the best devices/solutions around.

I have a structure sensor. Love it. It’s great for bigger things from a human to a car. Not so good for small stuff like a lego figurine.

I scanned a whole airplane to do aerodynamic modifications… If you’re interested you can check it out here…

very cool..nice

or if you already have a digital camera you can look into Agisoft photoscan

Do you know how well the detail is with people? I've been wanting to try and incorporate 3d models in my photography, but I need to be able to see details on peoples faces.

it depends what kind of details you are looking for. Forget about skin detail (pores and fine wrinkles/lines)

Thanks for the comment, do you know of any scanner that can get me the wrinkles/lines on someones face. (without spending $20,000)

Maybe the HDI 120 is an option

I read the starter package is araound $5000 USD without geomagic, but you can surely work it out through another software.

not sure...that kinda of resolution it something that you get from scanning (laser) and actual life cast of the person (silicone molds can hold the smallest skin detail/imperfection) or Lightstage data (I cannot even imagine the cost)

I deal with this stuff everyday at work and on my personal stuff. Here you can see (first pic of the album) a head of a friend of mine, the first of the 4 (on screen left) is what you would get from Agisoft or similar software (results can be slightly better than that thou). Then I go in and I do my job, cleaning up and manually add all of the skin detail:

there is another album there , my self portrait, that is another example done the same way

That sucks. I was hoping on something that did small items from around 2 inches to 2 feet, similar in the size of an iphone to make a 3d file to print. Guess I'll have to wait for apps and upgrades to it or wait longer for another option to surface. Thanks

There is a lens mod that you can do to increase smaller detail, an instagramer by the name of IRIDER_ did it and it works quite well

You maybe want to try Matterform, or fuel 3d options.

Fuel 3D looks nice. A little large but I am sure in the years to come it will get smaller. lol 1200 price tag is about what I would spend on an iPad and sense scanner so its comparable. I'll have to do some research cause I love the idea of using an apple product to do the scanning and even use it to adjust the 3d file.

Decisions, decisions. lol

But I guess it is all in the "Details". hehehe pun intended.

Cheers and thanks

Check the fuel site, they offer some sample scans. And they look more refined than the Sense. Technology used on all those scanners is basic and old. All those low cost scanners use the kinect technology infrared sensors which works but for some applications is useless. At least fuel uses a different technology it might works better.
