Acetone vaporizing

Hey There!

Vaporizing acetone only works with abs?

Has anyone ever tried with z-hips or z-ultrat?

Tanks ;)

Since I was successful in using MEK to weld parts made with HIPS and Ultra then acetone should do something.

Performance may vary in how long changes will happen so testing for your particular setup should be performed.

Acetone vapor will work with ZUltra and Zabs but not with ZHips or Zglass.

I have tried them all. lol I let Zglass and Zhips sit in acetone for 2 days and while it looked a bit thin it didn't melt like the others.

There are other substances that play the same role with Z-hips?

I use a self-leveling epoxy resin that is used to simulate the water in the dioramas, works perfectly, both with ABS, PLA, fab for the Glass.
excellent results
The resin is an excellent product.
But for z-hip I'm looking for a similar solution to the vaporization acetone if possible.

We recommend acetone mainly for z-abs vaporizing. In our opinion it doesn't work that well on z-hips or z-ultrat.

Ok, wondering about z-hips if there is some other substance capable you play the same effect that acetone is the z-abs.

D-Limonene is suppose to dissolve HIPs material but I have not tried it.

I'll do some TEST!

Has anyone ever tried with the MEK?

Tanks

Cold acetone vapour works well with z-ultrat.

MEK works well with Zhips. Hadn't tried it on Zultrat.

I still don't understand why they say acetone doesn't work with Zultrat--it does. IMO Zultrat rarely needs it but it still works wit it.

Just a bit longer, it takes my Padawan.

There are several solvents that are very aggressive towards plastic polymers but often theses solvents are VERY dangerous for health and are difficult to manage because of long time to evaporate and consequent high retention in to the material (days or weeks !)

I suggest to stay with Acetone and MEK , it might take a longer time but especially with MEK it should work well with Z-Ultra.

Commercial Acetone might not be pure and this could explain why it does not work well in some case.

What exactly MEK?
I could not even understand ..
It works best of Limonene?

MEK = Methyl Ethyl Ketone , C4H8O .

Limonene-D in my experience do not work at all on ABS , has a very long evaporation time and it really stinks !

Hi, All

I tried to acetone vaporize  a model but not much happend, even after hours it was very minimal. I used the instructions posted on this site.

I used ECO friendly acentone (well that's the text on the bottle) but it desolves all kind of stuff if i read the label.

Could it be that this ECO friendly acetone is not useable for smoothen 3d printed models. (tested it with ABS & ULTRA)

Anyone experienced same problem?

Any info, tips welcome

Regards.

Did you use the cold acetone bath or are you heating it up?

Cold acetone bath sometimes can take 24 hrs from what I heard. I use a hot plate and a steel pot with a colander to hold the object- heat it up to the minimum and then turn off and pull the print when it is at the desired look.

@ Richard: Eco acetone doesn't work. It has to be more pure, try a paint store or other specialist.

Edit: I see you're from the Netherlands, since a while the acetone in hardware stores etc. are the eco types. Probably a government thing. I bought some good acetone from ''werkenmetmerken'' online, good and relatively cheap in 5 liter cans from Bleko Chemie.
