All Prints Failing :/

Good day Folks.

Recently I noticed every larger print is failing at the rear left corner of the printbed (even after a full maintenance of the rig).

After posting in November it was suggested that I move from ABS to another material, so HIPS is is:  http://forum.zortrax.com/index.php?/topic/3271-delamination-and-raft-liftup/

However the rear left quadrant failures are even worse when I moved to HIPS.  I ordered a brand new print plate and the failures remain … and in this troubleshooting process the area of failed prints has grown at each attempt (see picture from last attempt).

Watching closely, I can see that the extruder gear at the edge of the failure quadrant begins to stutter, and anywhere printing is no longer occurring at all fully stops moving.

No snags of any form exist in the feed.

Can the Ribbon Cable cause this?

Something else I should examine?

Thanks for helping

Ribbon cable is my bet.

Thanks David. Part ordered, will update once I know

Hi Chris,

Yes, it definitely looks like the ribbon cable failed. Lack of extrusion at a particular spot of the platform is a classic symptom.

The easiest way to confirm the diagnosis is to move the cable when the printing process is pending. When bending the cable, it should start extruding again at some point.

Also, we can perform a simple ribbon cable test:

Thanks Folks, the replacement cable + print bed did the trick.

Moving the old cable also resulted in proper extrusion at certain points.

Any chance for an upgraded cable - non-ribbon - in the future?

FYI, my Printer currently has 345 hours, 57 minutes on it.

Chris,

No plans for upgrading the cable.

Btw, do you use such clips?

They really prevent the cable from breaking and, in consequence, enhance its lifespan
