For the 3d printing in space project, they put any aluminium layer arround the nozzle and small parts of the hotend.
So I wonder if this was already tried by someone on earth as well ?
I can image that you could avoid the burning marks of old filament on the hotend block and the nozzle, but it could be that it is only really pratical in space.
One advantage is that you can keep your hot end clean with minimal effort…just wrap some cheap aluminum foil around it every once in a while and throw the dirty foil away,
