I've recently acquired a Zortrax M200 printer, with the following characteristics : hotend v1, hardware rev. 4 (the one without signal wire), firmware rev. 0.0.5. Everything worked fine until I tried to print Z-Glass filament. It seems that it's a well known issue, which can be solved by replacing hotend with the new one (v2).
After replacing it, I tried to launch an auto-calibration, and here began the problems. The extruder moved above the back-left side of the platform and started to go down along z-axis, but it never stopped. I quickly powered-off the printer and after restarting it, I moved down the platform.
Now I'm back with the old hotend and everything is ok, but I wish I could get the hotend v2 to work because I need to print some Z-Glass models.
Has anybody encountered the same problem ?
Thank you all for your help !
Note : I was wondering how the electric contact is made since there is no longer signal wire ? I've noticed that the new hotend has a non-conductive piece of aluminium instead of the old one which was electrically conductive.
I had the same issue, but immediately scraped the coating from the tip of the nozzle so it could make the contact with the build plate, be gentle, don't get rough with the tip.
The nozzle may have a little clear coat on it for corrosion resistance from the factory or some other barrier that can prevent an electrical contact.
@Drew : testing with multimeter, I checked the nozzle and it's electrically conductive, even the tip.
@IngoKlein : I didn't really understand how you fixed the issue. Just for remind, I have the hardware rev.4, so there is no signal cable.
I did some more tests with a multimeter, and also with some wire. As I expected, the signal is now routed to electronics through the shield of the cable of the heater or temperature sensor (I didn't identify them yet). I could verify it by connecting a conductive part of the platform to the shield during calibration, and it worked (it reacts as if the nozzle touch the platform).
So the problem is there is no electrical contact between the nozzle and the shielded wire since the metal block is no longer conductive on hotend v2.
An unsightly workaround would consist in connecting these two parts with a wire ...
So the new hotend version is compatible with old printer, but not with the most recent ... ?
