Calibration issue

Started calibration, got a error saying contact was bad and to clean the build surface, surface was clean as clean can be so I clicked the "ok" button to continue then the build plate started moving down and kept trying to move while bottomed out so I had to quickly turn the power off. turned the printer back on and restarted the calibration process, it completed with no issues. My concern is that this was a warning for bad things to come, I depend on my printer to be up and running all day, every day so I need to know what could be going on so I can pre order replacement parts in preparation.

side note: my printer has under 500 hours of print time

Are you on the latest firmware Beard? I went back to 1.0.5 as I had issues with calibration and the platform bottoming out. Not really ideal as I can't use the new features in the latest Z-Suite as a result.

I am on the current firmware, if this issue happens again I will revert to the .5 and give it a try. Thanks for the heads up.

Happened again with the bed bottoming out, difference was this time the bed was already at the lowest position. has to be a firmware glitch, right?

Yes, that's what happened to me also. I do recall reading somewhere that it wont damage your printer, but it sounds terrible and I was not willing to take the chance so changed back to older firmware. Have not had it happen since so my guess is firmware.

Have you downgraded to 1.05 before that happened?

Exactly, it wont damage printer itself but it shouldn't be happening

Hello

I had a similar problem, build plate going down instead of going up, not only during calibration, but also at the beggining of a print.

For my printer, I think it was because of the perf board, I changed it and problem disappeared (maybe a short circuit made the system thinking the board was touching the hotend so build plate went down ?)

I have never downgraded my machine, only upgraded but I will be trying the downgrade for root cause diagnostic purposes

yeah, faulty perforated plate could be causing inverted direction issues.
