Painted with acrylic paints :)

Hi,

Good job!

What procedure do you use before painting with acrylic colours? Aceton vapour or sandpaper?

Thanks

Hi :)

After printing i used "putty for plastic models" >> sandpaper >> 3 x fine Primer >> Acrylic colours >> 2 x Varnish :)

Michal

Great!

I’m working on some architectural models and want to paint it as well. Is the sandpaper a must before painting? Do you use a varnish just to get a shine for the colours? I’m thinking to use only aceton vapour and than white primer in couple of layers. Do you think it is enough?

Many thanks for advices!

HI,

I have made many models and i don't recommend acetone vapor. just fill ,prime and paint. sometimes clearcoat to make more durable.

vapor is good if you are not going to paint, and want to make a casting of model.

-Lou

that is very cool good job I’m impressed I wish I could do that I’m trying to make a bobble head of my wife but I don’t have the skill level to do that

Thx :)

for me, a better method is sandpaper

acetone vapor destroy detail

a varnish is also for protection, because acrylic paint easily damaged

Michal

Great! Now I'm really looking forward to print my first work (minion! :D)

Sorry your wrong on that one I did that for my superman bust and it comes out smooth all I do is hit it with primer.

take a look for yourself I pretty much do this for all my prints

If the vapor bath is done correctly you don't really loose much detail at all.

I only do it for 30 seconds in a steamer vs people doing it for 19 minutes+

and my prints look way better than those who keep it in to long

What do you mean by steamer? A water steamer?

I use acetone vapor and makes very good, just depends how long I keep it in. It clears up imperfections of the print but never heard of steamer.

Here's the steamer I use

First add enough acetone to fill the bottom and then you select the dial to warm and once it starts boiling you count down to 30 seconds and BAM!

No layer lines no loss of detail aside for minimal edges but that can be reduced if it does happen and you can paint the print an hour after

I don't have to wait 45 minutes for amazing results

Here's the blog with my methods

Do you still recommend this method?  Didn't you have a vapor flare up after this post and don't recommend using a hotplate or steamer?  I'm about to make a Steamer vapor based bath station and need to do a lot of prints.  Waiting 20-40 min for each print then letting finish out of can for many hours afterwards won't be practicle for my job.  Thanks a bunch for any advice!

There is no worry about anything catching fire unless you are in the mood for a smoke break while preforming this. I use the exact same steamer and in about 20 seconds a part is cooked and done.

Thanks NS, don't smoke or play with fire while printing so Unless someone smoking hot comes around, should be ok.
