Do I have a bad spool of filament?

I just ordered a spool of z-abs Red, I try to load it and it doesn't feed, just gives me a clicking sound, so I unload it and feed in a z-abs red from a previous order and it feeds without issue

Does this mean I have a bad spool?

Check this: http://support.zortrax.com/problem-with-extrusion/

Did you cut the end of the material at an angle ?

ok, I will try that

I have never had to cut the material at an angle but I will try that next

tried loading this new filament (and unloading) a few times with no success, but the older filament works every time

Thanks for the reply

Cutting the filament at an angle can also cause initial feeding issues (as I have been told countless times), I have always cut the filament flat and had no issues with feeding. I guess there is really no issue with the filament feed if both methods work.

Is the new filament visibly larger than the older filament?

I checked the filament with a calliper and they both read at 1.7 to 1.8 mm

You could heat the nozzle from the firmware menu item and hold the filament string directly against it to see how it melts. Compare both spools wether there is a difference (and clean the nozzle finally).

FYI: to fix my issue I lightly sanded the filament in order to reduce the diameter in order to start the load, once loaded it was fine
