First major print fail.. Spool problem!!

Ok.. so I had a print fail today. Had this thing almost a year with minimum problems. Even this failure was not at all the printers fault.. I was in the middle of a print and was very low on filament. I paused the print, grabbed a new spool, loaded, and resume printing. I had some things to do so I left. When I got home I noticed the nozzle was clogged and no longer printing.. Pulled nozzle and hot end cleaned it all out and reloaded. Stepper was still skipping.. Cause of problem--- New spool is wider in one spot and hung up on original spool holder. It is tight!!! Even trying to spin by hand it locks up.. Make sure to spin you filament spool to make sure it spins free ALL the way around..   Now I need to print a longer spool holder from another roll.

Update.. 2 out of 3 spools of grey are too wide in one spot.. They lock up on the spool holder.

Thanks for the heads up. I'll definitely be checking this next time.

Yup, some Zortrax spools are a bit too wide for original spool holders. One of the reasons why I made custom one.
