layer shift.

Hi all,

been happily printing on my machine for months now, but the last 3 out of 4 prints have failed. All the failures have been with zhips (maybe just a coincidence?), about one or two layers into the print after the raft. This is the first time printing with zhips.

The extruder seems to go haywire, and ends up in the corner, where it makes a loud noise (you can hear the same noise at the end of the video). This seems to knock the extruder into a new location, and the print is shifted.

I have gone through all the maintenance procedures, stepper pulley checks and belt tension checks, but still happening.

I tried this on 2 near identical zcodes, only difference was the speed and the parts had move a little, and both files did the shift at exactly the same place by the looks of it.

I have attached a photo of what came off the bed on the second fail, and the video is the third fail.

I have also attached the zcode.

Don’t want to try and print again at the moment, as I don’t want to damage my machine.

Edit: zcode removed to save error on other users machines.

Hello,

Did you check all steps from this manual: http://support.zortrax.com/hc/en-us/articles/201315441-Eliminating-Layers-Displacement ?

BR,

Igor

Yep.. Check set screws on both motor pulleys.. You have a screw loose.. The reason it makes loud noise at the end is because it shifted during the print.. Now it thinks the head is further to the right than it actually is.. When it goes back to Zero on X it goes full distance crashing into the side...

Yes, Igor and Kyle, I did all the steps in the link you posted before, and checked pulleys.

I thought the noise was because of this Kyle.

I actually think this could be a zcode issue, as it has happened in the same place on 2 failed prints.

I forgot to add that I stopped the print in the video, it doesn’t stop by itself.

Where you bought the printer? Zortrax or Reseller?

Hi Igor,

Zortrax.

Did you try another zcode? Try a simple, tall cylinder and tell us what happens.

ssangster please send me your *.stl or *.zcode file I’ll check it on our printers, if the print will be ok I’ll contact you with our support and probably your printer will required visit our service.

Igor

Igor, the zcode is at the top. 😀

Andre, I tried another zcode with one part in it (pretty complicated part), and it printed great. That was in between fail 1 and fail 2. There were multiple parts in the prints that failed, and they had to be arranged by hand…maybe this has something to do with the problem?

Found errors in a couple of the stl files, I didn't model them and unfortunately didnt check them!

Going to try another print now....fingers crossed!

I print now your model  Tomorrow morning will see where is the problem.

just failed another print. Wasting a lot of filament here! :(

Failed at exactly the same place, switched machine off as soon as it failed.

The extruder tried to leave the print bed just after where the pen is pointing to.

I would definitely say it has nothing to do with the mechanical side......either electronics, software or models.

Have same problem as you, something is wrong with this file. We’ll check it and let you know.
