M300 Dual support extruder removal

Hello. M300 Dual printer seems to be notorious for clogging extruder heads, especially when using the support material side of the extruder.
Question, is it possible to disable, or even remove, the support material extruder side from the module without affecting functionality of the other extruder? Of course this would mean that support material can’t be used, making the printer a single extruder printer.
FYI: I acquired the M300 Dual printer, used, for free and I’ve just received replacement hotends. This replacement hotend will be the fourth replacement on this machine. Other than clogging hotends, the overall printer works fine, when not using support material, of course. Also, I am used to using a single extruder printer - I have a M300, which I’ve had for a number a years now (not a M300 plus - I also have two M200 plus).
Thanks in advanced for any comments on this.

Hi Miguelmn,

I only have bad experience with the M300 Dual, the support always cloggs, irrelevant of the material being used. I have Zortrax machines from the earliest moment, I did back the Kickstarter program. I had 2 M200, all of them are workhorses, they just keep running. The M300 Dual can be used with single material, no support, than it works as you said without any issues, just finished this morning a 17 hour job, at the highest resolution with ASA PRO is is beautifull, at 1,5 times the normal speed! So why border at taking out the second extruder?

Hope this helps.

Erik

When it comes to using support materials, one of the most important factors for Inventure, Endureal, and M300 Dual printers is that the support filament needs to be properly dried. I print on these types of printers myself and always recommend the following steps:

  • Thoroughly drying the support material.
  • Cleaning the drive gear and filament change system every 100-150 hours.

These steps ensure that I always get great prints with supports for ABS/HIPS, which I dissolve in D-Limonene, and BVOH for PLA, etc.

Of course, dual-extruder printing requires more experience, but it is very practical.

I decided never to use support material. Waste of time.
