Setting a different layer heigth within the same model?

Hi,

This question has been given by a customer today. They would like to print 4/5 of model with 0,29, and the rest (visually important) with 0,14 or less.

Do you think it is reasonable? Shall not be too difficult to imlement such a feature in next release of Z-Suite.

Sounds interesting, never seen it before. But it might carry some issues with bonding.

You could always print at different layer heights and glue the parts ;) better solution and much easier to implement.

I have used it a lot.

Very helpful for some specific cases. The is no issue with bonding as the width is the same, only the height changes.

I think it is a big plus if implemented.

I like the idea, though I would not personally use it much.

However, this got me thinking about an easy way to manually switch fillament type or at least color!

Idea:

1) Add a "Pause Print" feature where the bed goes all the way down

2) We have 4 options on the dial knob: continue print, unload filament, load filament, cancel print

3) Depending on option we can unload current color, load new one, and then continue the print

Just a thought.

You can.. Hold button in for 10 seconds.. Read prompts on LCD.. You can also pause to change filament in Z-suite. This was done with the Z-suite pause at certain layer for color change..look at last post by me.  http://forum.zortrax.com/index.php?/topic/1076-xtc-3d/

Oh wow! :)

Hi peconi, you can have an idea of an object printed with multiple colors looking at my penholder: http://www.thingiverse.com/thing:719027

Very nice!

So, where in software do I tell it to pause to change the fillament?

Will play with this tonight.

Thanks.

after displaing Z-Code there's 'pause' button looks like clock, and then you insert/remove pauses

But hard to do in the Mac version of Z-suite. Hopefully in the new version out soon?

Yes, Mac version is far from useful at most times. It would be great if they could just re-write the app as a native OSX application.

It kinda bugs me that the pause is only set by height. You should be able to use the slider to go to the layer you want the just click "add pause." Maybe it could just autofill the little 'height' box as you slide.

You can use the slide bar to set layer.. Or are you on the Mac version?

Really? Not mac, but it's never worked for me. I go to the layer I want, hit 'add pause' and nothing happens. The only way I can get it to work is by using the height option. I guess I need to try it again and contact support if it's still not working.

That's the reason I'll never own an "I-anything".. LOL!! :D

Lol, it works fine on a Mac for me. Though the app leaves a lot to be desired since it is really a Windows app running in some kind of an emulator.
