Thinking of Ordering Machine & Filament

Hi guys,

I was about to buy a Replicator 5th generation but then saw a link on a forum for the Zortrax printer and have been researching everything I can about it. I have backed a lot of new products in the past so I am used to delayed shipping etc if a project sponsor, but I really need a replacement printer fast.

Can I ask, what is the actual fastest time I can get delivery of printer and spools of every colour? I see the site says 2-8 weeks … That’s one heck of a range of ETA.

I am also VERY nervous seeing the postings on this forum regarding problems with shipping.

If anyone could let me know how things are at the moment I would be ever so grateful.

Cheers,

Jay

let’s just say that, if you have time, it is ok… If your need is urgent, get another one. It is more 8 weeks than 2, here.

Hey pilou,

Oh :frowning: that’s a real disappointment … I would have ordered one tomorrow if it was going to be 1-2 week lead time.

I guess I will have to consider a Makerbot :frowning:

Thanks for your advise,

Jay

The best way is to ask zortrax.

Zortrax Sales: sales@zortrax.com

For sure, it will not be one or 2 weeks. It will probably be 4 or 5, or maybe more, as they seem to be very busy nowadays…

But it might be worth the wait, you know. And Makerbot is way much more expensive.

Go to the print room, and make your choice.

Hmmm … Maybe if someone from the Zortrax team could give me an email or reply to the thread tomorrow and let me know an up to date delivery lead time I may still place the order - it does look like a great machine - it’s just the delay that’s the issue.

And thanks again pilou,

Jay

I have contacted them direct as suggested - many thanks for your help guys!

Jay

I would really recommend that you wait for a Zortrax over a Makerbot, in my opinion far superior.

David

It’s a matter of faith.

Hey Rafal

Firstly, thankyou for your quick reply. I am almost completely convinced now to go with the Zortrax. Is there any chance you could answer a few last questions?

  1. I know that the option of using Z-PLA is coming, but will this be on the existing perforated bed with a raft or will a flat alternative be used?

  2. How long do you think it will be before the PLA option becomes available?

  3. I have a specific type of file that I want to be able to print. They are the parts for a robot ! I have attached a link to three STL files showing the extremes - two which are fairly simple (but that have quite nice overhang) and one which is larger and more adventurous. Will the Zotrax be good with these sort of files? If anyone could even print off one of the small parts and post a photo, I would be REALLY grateful.

  4. I understand that the software is custom designed specifically for the M200 printer and that this allows you to deliver a seamless plug and print solution. I realise that the software is still undergoing constant improvements to deliver the functionality that your brochures promise, but when do you think things like the auto-leveling etc will be done - i.e. a full issue rather than beta version? Is the printer capable of using e.g. g-code from any other software packages other than your own in the meantime if something can’t be done in your own software?

  5. The adverts state that the printer will be WIFI capable - how far off is this andI take it that it will just be a firmware update rather than needing any more hardware?

  6. Are there plans to have any iOS apps etc and is the intention to follow what Maketrbot have opted for such as an add-on camera? It’s not a deal breaker for me - just out of interest - I would prefer a solid quality print that is repeatable and consistent anyday!

Currently I have a RepRapPro Mono Mendel and it is really struggling to produce parts that are stable (not drooping) and dimensionally accurate. It certainly looks like this is exactly what you are overcoming with the M200 printer and that it is going to be less experimenting with millions of variables and more actually just printing what I have asked for!

Thankyou ever so much,

Hopefully this will be the first of many topics I participate in if I become a Zortrax owner!

Jay

Thankyou Rafal !! Perfect as it answers all of my questions! I can’t thank you enough for doing the test prints for me. If they come out good then I will be placing an order for the machine by the end of the day along with a huge order of Z-ABS! Just on that matter … am I right in thinking the printer ships with a white ABS included - so I wouldn’t need to order white? (And I saw a previous post … is it really white now rather than translucent looking?)

Once again, Thankyou soooooo much for the support !

Cheers,

Jay

Hey Rafal,

You know I read about your printer in another forum … well I decided that after you incredible example of customer service, that it deserved to be brought to the attention of the wider community, so have just posted a recommendation on that forum to tell everyone how far you go to support your customers:

Good thing the forum wasn’t closed to non-owners

Just in case anyone wants to check out the amazing robot company that these parts work with, here’s the link:

http://www.ez-robot.com/Community/Forum/posts.aspx?threadId=5320

They are a great company that really work with 3D printer owners and even give them the STL’s of their products so that you don’t have to buy the plastic robot parts from them - you just buy the electronics - great deal !!

Final note on this thread … I have just bought the printer and a truck load of ABS from Zortrax so thankyou to Rafal and all of you that have helped me make this great decision!

Cheers,

Jay

Welcome to the family Jay!

David

Thanks David !

After reading a ton of posts, I have only one question before order next week.

First time 3d print person, is it really that easy to print with Zortrax?

Thanks in advance,

:):):)

j

Yes it is easy to print with Zortrax.
