So I just got my Zortrax in the mail. It's bee advertised as printing 25 Microns (.025mm) however whenever I go into Z-Suite and prepare my model to print the lowest setting under Layer thicknes is .09mm (90 Micros)... What am I missing?
Hello, and welcome to the forum!
Where did you read about 25 microns? On Zortrax website 25 microns resolution is marked as "available in future update".
Its a common mistake. No worries. I made it before when I was making my website. Used info from the Technical page but never looked at the asterisk. lol Had other things on mind and its easy to overlook.
It will come...I have faith. As Zteam would say....Soon! hahahahah lol
Cheers
Yeah I think I read it across a variety of sites as I did my research. So this is something that can come with a firmware and software update? That's cool. I am patient :-)

Yes it will come with a software update.
The machine is capable of 25 microns but its not implemented. Just like the machine is capable of running higher temps but the parameters hasn't been set yet in Zsuite to accommodate it.
As the say...Soon! hahaha
Hi, so what about "50 microns" please_?

50 microns resolution is also marked with asterisk.
What sort of prints could benefit from 25 or even 50 micron layer resolution? Usually, I've been printing mechanical models at 90 micron but recent tests suggest that 140 is nearly as good so far as appearance goes.
Mike

I agree.. Plus the print time would be greatly extended.. (days)
ok, thanks for pointing that out.
Will 50microns be available before 25microns please_?
And if, what are the approximate dates please_? (I ask, because I'm looking at an SLS in Q3'15)
I'm still not getting the importance of 25 or 50 microns over 90..The difference seems to be great when using those numbers but in reality it's not.. In standard measurements it breaks down like this... 25= .001 50= .002 90=.0035 Keep in mind a human hair is about .002 The difference between 25 and 90 is about 1 human hair. What are you looking to make with this resolution?
human hair ofc
Hi, you’re right, it’s not “important” for me, it’s just a nice-to-have for where I can see & feel very small (90microns) steps on for example on the top of a toy car’s bonnet, where the dome shape approaches horizontal.
So, it would just be nice (not important) to know when 25 & 50 are estimated to be available.

I can see where that might help.. Slight angles are a nightmare..
