XTC-3D

Ordered the Smooth-on 3d printing coating. Will post pics of application when I get it incase anyone is curious. Kinda hoping it cuts out the acetone bath but cant see that happening.

Wiull find out though  lol

Just got the XTC-3D. Came 3/4 full so I called Smooth On and said that they go by weight so its not unusual for bottles not to be full. I wouldve figured a big company like them wouldve packaged their products in correct size containers. Ohwell, I dont have a small scale so I will just chalk it up to proper. lol

I didnt have any prints available but this one so I did a test run and seems better but will see when dry. Hers the initial application with a tiny bit of XTC

I think acetone bath would be nice coupled with this. This is just one coat and a quick crude paint job. I will try another coat after completely dry. Might print another and then acetone then coat and compare.

That is the second ugliest thing I have seen on here.. Gadgetstogo got first place with his cookie cutter.. http://forum.zortrax.com/index.php?/topic/760-cookie-cutter/?hl=%2Bcookie+%2Bcutter  I do live in Denver though.... LOL   On a serious note, Not too sure I like how much inside corner detail you lose.. Probably not too good for mechanical parts.

Chemical treatment is never good for mechanical parts, unless you have certain kind of geometries. But those like covers and parts with a lot of holes, pads, grooves and very specific geometries are better without treatment.

One of their videos shows it being used as a filler and then sanded afterwards. Results looked very nice and matte. I think the advantage over other fillers might be fewer coats and sanding steps.

I tried another print with the acetone and then XTC. I like the acetone better myself. I am thinking a larger print may benefit from this coating but smaller prints in my opinion are lost on it. One on top is acetone with a light coat of xtc. One on bottom is a coat of xtc and then a bad paint job(LOL) and a second coat of xtc.

You should try using the pause option to print the different colors. You must change the layer heights of of the drawing though..

Yeah I thought about that. Eventually I will change colors on prints but now I only have yellow, black and green. I have been waiting for Polycarbonate upgrade because thats what I really need for my business. So I just got a few colors for test printing until the upgrade comes out.

I have found a resaler in the states on Amazon that will cut my shipping cost per filament roll so thats good. I just havent ordered any yet. I wanted to start a resale business of Zortrax but I didnt get the funding I needed from my investor (Bastard). hehehe

I'm guessing Octave.. I use them..
