Z-Suite Scrambles 3D Prints

Z-suite is scrambling a lot of the models I'm trying to print.

I'm generally using Sketchup to design my models. Some models print properly but a lot of the time they just get scrambled.

I've checked the models thoroughly for missing vertices/faces and to ensure that the surface normals are correct.

I'm using Z-Suite v.0.0.6 on OSX.

It's very frustrating. The software is very locked-down and opaque so it's next to impossible to troubleshoot. In addition, it crashes in a number of ways.

Because there is very little control over support structures, the models are often buried in support structures and its not until you print them that you can see all the errors that Z-Suite has introduced.

What can I do to prevent scrambled ZCode?

Is there a release planned soon that will fix these issues?

Can you publish the ZCode spec so that we can output our ZCode?

I'm sure that everyone would agree that Zortrax needs to choose between making good software that works or opening the software so that others can fix the problems. You can't just push severely buggy software on users and expect them to put up with it.

Can you post the stl file? I want to see what Spaceclaim thinks of it. You might also like Designspark Mechanical. It's similar to Sketchup but WAY more powerful. It is a solid modeler.. Powered by Spaceclaim. I've never had a model fail me. Best free software out there in my opinion.

Overall nothing is wrong with ZSuite problem is with Sketchup which generate very bad .stl files (you can check errors in your files using netfabb basic). I cannot find old topic about this but I’m sure somewhere was discussion about badly generated .stl files from Sketchup.

If sketchup plugins don’t help then I suggest to move to anything other than Sketchup, ZSuite already try to repair almost every error in .stl files but no miracles.

About this you can contact with Sketchup support

Please post the .stl file here.

Martin is right.. Sketchup is ok to draw stuff, but some or most models are not water tight.. If you learn to use Designspark you will have no more problems. Google is not a company that is dedicated to 3D modeling.. I think they just wanted to get their feet wet..

Thanks to everyone for your help.

If Sketchup is the source of the problem for modelling, I can switch modelling tools. Unfortunately I don't have that option for slicing. :(

I have attached the STL file.

I'm definitely going to check out Spaceclaim and Designspark.

Thanks again. Please let me know if I'm making dumb mistakes. I'm eager to get this corrected and get on the right track to becoming productive with the printer.

I see no erros with this file using z-suite v0.0.7 on Win 7.

I also don't see any problems with this model.

BTW: You should print this in a lying position, just for my opinion :)

No problems on Netfabb check. Printing now with 0.39 layer, 10% support. Positioned on the flat side.

Attachment 51 not found.

printed also in 0.19 (left side)

I think you need a smoother stl (more polygons), but I'm not a specialist.

BTW, used Z-Suite 0.0.7 on Windows 7 > Parallels > OSX 10.9.3
