When are you going to introduce the long awaited Linux support?
I think a lot of people won’t scrap their PC or Laptop just because MS thinks that the hardware does not meet W11 requirements. On top of advertising within the operating system (!) and the unwanted Recall spy feature and some other drawbacks in W11.
We currently have no plans for the Linux support.
That being said, some time ago I could run Z-Suite under Ubuntu using Wine. I cannot guarantee it will work, and I don’t daily drive Linux, so I cannot offer immediate help, or official support.
Did you manage to get it fully working and can you provide some details what was necessary?
I used Bottles instead of wine and it it’s basically functioning, I can also access the printer via web interface. But you can not work with because the screen flickers and some parts (like the icons column on the left side) keep dissapearing - they appear when you move the mouse over them, but the next time they flicker they disappear again. So it is not a satisfactory solution.
Note: I am on openSUSE Tumbleweed and I tried different environments (Apps, Games), different Windows versions (10,11), different runners (DivX) and different versions of Zortrax Suite and all in different combinations. But with no success.
Any help appreciated!
I’ll provide a write-up of my method of running it on Mint/Ubuntu (using Wine) by the end of the week.
We’ll try to cover other popular Linux distros in the future.
Right now I can tell you, that you need to install system fonts using winetricks. You might also need a Wine-Mono package (Index of /wine/wine-mono), but I’m still investigating that.
Thank you so very much @DomainZortrax! Certainly it’s not Zortrax’s fault, but I don’t accept MS declaring my well-functioning hardware as e-waste because they like to define some obscure requirements to to be allowed to run their operating system. So they have to go - and aything else that does not offer a working alternative.
fyi
it works very well under virtualbox linux host and windows7 or 10 vm
it wasn’t the case fewer vbox versions back as there were glitches on screen
when moving/placing model and also drop down menu where not shown.
current version i use is v7.1.4 and graphic controller driver is ‘VBoxSVGA’
with enable 3D acceleration checked.
also inside the vm, installing vboxguestadditions is needed with direct3d support.
